Soil heat capacity is of interest for determining the energy balance of soil.  The net radiation is the sum of the soil’s heat flux density, the sensible heat flux density and the latent heat flux density.  The three main categories of soil are sandy soil, loam soil and clay soil.  Soil in arid desert regions are shown to have the highest heat flux.
