The Department of Defense and the branches of the military have long been the biggest consumers of energy in the US. It is therefore gratifying that they do use some renewable energy technology as well, especially investing in biofuels and solar power. A biofuel-powered fighter jet is expected to be launched soon, as well as a biofuel-driven fleet for the navy. A solar power facility is being installed at Fort Irwin, California, and similar sites are expected to be biult at other forts and military facilities soon. In navy facilities, light bulbs are being replaced with LEDs, which cuts down on power usage. LEDs are also being used in army tents.
