Sugar comes from a wide range of sources, corn syrup comes from corn, agave nectar from the agave plant and honey from bees. Table sugar however typically comes from sugar cane and sugar beets.
Sugar was first extracted from a plant called Saccharum Officianarum, a plant whose fluids contain 13% sucrose. Sugar cane then arose in the south pacific and was brought into Asia by human migrations.
