What kind of palm tree does palm oil come from?

Palm oil comes from the oil palm Elaeis guineensis.  There are two species used for manufacturing palm oil within this subspecies.  Elaeis guineensis is commonly found in Africa, while Elaeis oleifera is found in Central and South America.  Palm oil is easy and cheap to mass produce, although it isn’t the healthiest.
