A bed mattress has several parts. The core is coils or springs that provide support. Insulation made from fibers or mesh is on top of the coils. A layer of cushioning on top of the insulation provides comfort and can be made from a variety of materials such as cotton, felt, foam, purfoam or fiber pads. On top of this is quilting or ‘pillowtop’ followed by a tickling, or cover. Many include antimicrobial fibers to reduce allergens.
