Bats are willing to eat a wide variety of insects and will typically eat whatever they can get. Because of this, a bat will eat whatever insect is the most abundant; which happens to be the mosquito. A bat can eat up to 3,000 mosquitoes each night. If a particular climate favors bugs other than mosquitoes, a bat will eat whatever is available.
It can vary by variety of bat, of which there are many. The Spotted Bat subsists mostly on moths, making it a type of specialized feeder. Other insects that might be the main diet of a bat depending on its location, include flies, beetles, mosquitoes, etc. One colony in Texas supposedly eats 500,000 pounds of mosquitoes nightly. Thats quite a beneficial pesticide.
