Two breeds of racing horse are the Quarter Horse and the Akhal-Teke. The Quarter Horse is a breed of riding and sprint-racing horse and is also the first all-American breed. The Akhal-Teke is a horse native to the desert oases of Turkmenistan (north of Iran) and is one of the oldest horse breeds that has been bred and raced for at least 3000 years; this horse also has a remarkable endurance and resistance to heat.
