What kind of gas is the sun made up of?

The sun is mostly hydrogen (approximately 90%) and helium (about 9.9 %). The remainer of the gases are oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, magnesium, and iron. Over time the percentage of gases slowly change over time because the sun is constantly converting hydrogen into helium in its core.
