The fox character in The Little Prince is most likely a fennec fox. The fox is described as having large ears and living in a desert. Fennec foxes are the smallest species of fox and are known for having very large ears and living in desert regions in Africa. The author of “The Little Prince”, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, wrote a letter to his sister in 1918 that made reference to a fennec fox that he was taming. He also spoke of how he encountered a fennec in the Sahara desert when his plane crashed there in 1935. It is believed that these two experiences with fennecs are what inspired this important fox character in his most famous literary work.
