Throughout its three decades of oil drilling in the Ecuadorian region of the Amazon, the Chevron Corporation has dumped billions of gallons of toxic waste directly into waterways that native inhabitants rely on. Chevron deliberately uses substandard technology when drilling in this area in order to save on costs, but this inevitably leads to high levels of pollution.
There are also 916 unlined toxic waste pits dug into the forest floor throughout the designated drilling area, and 18 billiion gallons of wastewater have been dumped into surface streams. The unabashed envrionmental damage wrought by Chevron in Ecuador is expansive beyond belief.
