Environmental chemistry is aimed at helping the environment.  It is a science that studies the chemical and biochemical phenomena of nature, and includes aquatic, atmospheric, and soil chemistry.  It is vital to first understand how uncontaminated environments work, chemically, and then damage done by humans can then be analyzed, and problems hopefully solved.
