Large dams in poor countries have displaced residents, and often lacked environmental controls to ensure that ecosystems aren’t damaged. A report entitled the World Commission on Dams released in 1998 estimated that between 40-80 million people had been forced to leave their homes to build dams. Because all dams disrupt wildlife, water temperatures, flow, and water levels large dams are more destructive by nature.
