The National Cancer Institute allocates funds for cancer research in all areas, but puts more money into specific types of cancer, depending on populations affected and resources available. In 2008, breast cancer received $572 million in funding from the NCI. This was followed by prostate cancer ($285 million) and colorectal cancer ($273 million). Uterine cancer, at $17 million, received the least funding.
