Maples. Of the 13 species of maple native to North America, ten are indigenous to Canada: the Sugar, Black, Silver, Bigleaf, Red, Mountain, Striped, Douglas, Vine and the Manitoba maples. The maple is the arboreal emblem of Canada, and the leaf of a red maple is displayed on the Canadian flag.
