It’s illegal to make toys containing lead in the U.S. However, not all country have laws regulating the production and manufacturing of toys. Recently, many toys imported from China have been recalled due to the presence of lead. Thrift stores have stopped selling second hand toys because of the threat of lead.
However, even with the current legislation, many toys with high lead levels are getting on the shelves of stores. You can check the toy hazards recall list on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website for the most update information of recalls involving toys with high presences of lead.
