Many theories exist as to what caused the dinosaurs to go extinct. One of the most widely held theories is that a giant aestroid or comment caused the extinction. It is believed to have hit the Earth 65 million years ago on the Yucutan Peninsula, causing extreme destruction including tidal waves, firestorms, acid rain, and soot-filled skies that blocked out the sun. Other theories hold that the Earth’s atmosphere may have changed, making it unliveable for the dinosaurs; a nearby supernova exploding could have cloaked the Earth in radiation; climatic cooling caused by changes in the Earth’s orbit; mammals evolving and eating the dinosaur eggs. Lots of debate is still to be had as to which theory or combination of theories is the strongest.
