There are some people who believe that the cons outweigh the pros of using biofuels. The following are the main arguments of both sides of the debate.
Pros: Easy to use, can put it in your existing tank, renewable, produced domestically reducing dependence on foreign energy, and cleaner burning.
Cons: would require lots of acres to meet widespread demand resulting in continued deforestation for agricultural purposes, requires more energy to produce than it generates (29% more), reduced food production resulting in fluctuating prices and shortages, increased agricultural runoff causing pollution (nitrogen), more expensive than conventional gas, and centralized production makes it less available on the West and East coasts.
