What is keeping us from using fuel cells for power?

In order to use fuel cells, we need hydrogen.  The problem is, there isn’t ample hydrogen in the atmosphere to take.  So, we must split water.  In order to split H2O into hydrogen, it requires a large amount of energy.  The only place we can get energy powerful enough is from the sun.  The hang up is that we are still trying to figure out how exactly to harness the energy of the sun to split hydrogen from oxygen and put it to use the way we need it.
