A search for “kanapa tree” turned up no information regarding any actual tree by that name. “Kanapa” is a word in the Maori language that means “gleaming, shining, shine, glitter, twinkle, shean, extremely shiny, brilliant”, and Kanapa is a surname associated with certain Pacific Islander families. It is possible that a kanapa tree is a fictional plant of some sort, but not a real tree.
Is there any possibility you’re referring to Canepa? Canepa is a tree-growing fruit from Puerto Rico (It is actually present all throughout Central America and the Carribean, however it is known by many names, most commonly Mamoncillo). Information on the fruit/plant is available at the link.
