Besides being a popular name for many food co-ops and similar organizations, just food is a term that refers to food justice, specifically food that is just/fair. Food justice is a major issue, particularly in urban areas. Food justice refers to the accessibility a community has to healthy, affordable food. According to the NYC based organization Just Food, this entails the right to ‘grow, sell and eat healthy foods’. Many urban communities within the US are fighting for their access to ‘just food’ rather than the low-quality fast-food outlets and poor access to decent grocery stores that plague many neighborhoods.
