Jarrah timber is a kind of wood that comes from the Jarrah tree, a kind of Eucalyptus, that grows in Australia. It is very popular for construction and furniture because the wood is durable, dense, and resistant to common problems with wood like rotting, termites, and fungus that compromise its strength. In addition, it is a beautiful wood that can be used in many different ways. Because of its popularity, old growth Jarrah forests have been exploited. Jarrah timber is often recycled, because as old structures come down the wood is usually still in good shape and can re re-used. Conservationists are trying to promote both legislation to protect the Jarrah forests and also the use of recycled wood to help protect these trees.
