What is Japan’s Eco-Model Cities program?

In 2008 the Japan External Trade Organization selected 6 cities (with 7 added in 2009) to stand as an example of leadership and drive in efforts to move Japan to a low-carbon future. These towns, which include small villages and large cities, have ambitious energy and waste reduction goals and are all acting in different ways appropriate to their area to achieve them. Reducing Carbon Dioxide levels, developing solar infrastructures, reusing materials in building projects, and utilizing local biofuels are just some of the projects going on in these cities.
