The James Cook vessel is a research ship that travels ocean wide, from both tropical to Arctic regions.  This nautical vessel is capable of completing both lands-edge and deep sea research.  The replacement of the Charles Darwin occurred in August 2006 and the James Cook has been in operation since then.
