What is/was the single largest rat in the world?

    A new species of rat has been discovered in New Guiena and is the largest species of rat ever discovered. The rats are 82 inches long, don’t fear humans, and live near a volcano.

    The new species of rat found was over 82 centimeters long and weighed 1.5 kilograms. It had silver- brown coat of thick long fur and was found at an elevation of over 1,000 meters. The discovery was made by a team from the BBC Natural History Unit inside the crater of Mount Bosavi.
