I assume you mean what is an ion. An ion is a charged particle, it can have a positive or negative charge. An ion can be an atom or a molecule. Normal table salt will break up into ions (Na+ and Cl-) when dissolved in water. If you are taking a chemistry or other science course, you should be able to find much more detail in your text book.
