On September 27, 2009, US Senator Akaka introduced the Energy Development Program Implementation Act of 2009. This act supports the development of non-nuclear, alternative energy sources in developing nations and strengthens international efforts to prevent nuclear warfare. The Act will also support cooperation with developing countries in meeting their energy needs, reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, expand their energy alternatives, offer energy assessments for developing countries, create projects to support alternative energy, and include an exchange program for energy experts.
