Some ingredients that can be found in cosmetics and that are considered to be carcinogenic include the following:

-Chemical reactions can occur when Diethanolamine (DEA) and/or Triethanolamine (TEA) is mixed with nitrites which can lead to the formation of nitrosamines. Most nitrosamines are considered to be carcinogens.

-Bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol) can break down in products into formaldehyde and may cause the formation of nitrosamines.

    -1, 2-Dioxane

-Artificial colors, such as Blue 1 and Green 3, are considered to be carcinogenic.

    -Cosmetic talc is a carcinogen.

    -Crystalline silica

The list is so long that the real question is what products are actually safe? Many ingredients in cosmetics are not regulated by the FDA, so a general rule of thumb is the simpler, the better.
