Oil industry poses the most harm to Earth. There are direct and indirect factors that make the oil industry most harmful to Earth. The first direct factor is that this industry is depleting a natural fuel/resource. Indirectly, oil is used by most transportation sectors (automotive, air, and sea) thus producing large amounts of greenhouse gas emission. To be specific, 13.5% of CO2 emissions are because of the transportation sector. Secondly, oil as a commodity has led to government policies paralleling protection of pipelines and acquisition of lands to feed the demand for oil. Consequently, clean energy options have been delayed for decades in many countries. Oil and the transportation sector parallel each other because a shift to clean energy practices would hurt both groups in terms of one financially failing due to a drastic change in the other.
