Lead is a naturally occurring element, but there are many industries that use/used lead in a way that exposed humans to lead’s toxic effects. Some examples are:

-Lead was used in car gasoline until the mid-eighties and was polluted through car exhaust.
-The paint industry used lead based paints for buildings until 1978.
    -Some ceramic glazes contain lead.
    -Smelters deal with lead.
-Lead can be in sodder in plumbing in old buildings.
-Some toy and jewelry manufacturers use lead.
