What is included in the National Renewable Energy Standard?

The American Clean Energy and Security Act (called ACES for short) includes the establishment of National Renewable Energy Standard, which would require that utilities produce a certain percentage of their electricity through renewable sources such as solar or wind energy. The ACES bill, which aims to “create clean jobs, achieve energy independence, reduce global warming pollution and transition to a clean energy economy,” has passed in the House but there has not yet been a Senate vote. The idea behind the Renewable Energy Standard (RES) seems to be a good one. A recent report by the RES jobs study shows that the setting of just a 25% renewable energy standard by 2025 would mean the creation of 274,000 new jobs in the energy industry.
