From what I’ve read, the prion diseases are a large group of related neurodegenerative conditions which affect both animals and humans. All prion diseases are fatal with no effective treatment. However, currently the importance of these diseases lies in the current understanding of their pathogenesis. This has recently led to the promise of effective therapeutic interventions in the near future.
Prion Diseases are a group of rare, fatal brain diseases that effect humans and animals. Not much is known about this group of diseases, but they are characterized by misshapen proteins brain tissue. Included in Prion Diseases are Mad-Cow, CJD, and chronic wasting disease.
