What if, say, 50% of Americans or 150 million of us decided we wanted to live like Amish tomorrow; would there be enough fertile farmland? What would the environment be like and what would society be like?

Well, America has about 3.79 million sq miles of land, and uses about 50% of it for pastures and crops right now. At this point we have an abundance  of productive resources and export a lot of food and products all over the world, so there is undoubtedly enough space for us to live like the Amish. There is plenty of fertile farmland. In fact, living like the Amish would be a good way to ensure that we utilize our resources optimally as our population grows. We would be more self sufficient and probably a happier society in general.
