A global carbon tax would mean that a group of participating countries would regulate and enforce a tax on the carbon content of fossil fuels within their respective borders. For companies that produce industrial CO2 emissions, these can be measured in metric tons. It would also put increasing pressure on industries like car manufacturing to further comply with taxed carbon emissions. While producing revenue would be a bonus, the real idea behind carbon tax is to provide an incentive to eventually stop emitting greenhouse gasses altogether.
