Hypersaline lakes are bodies of water, surrounded by land, that have a very high salt level (usually sodium chloride.) Generally, they have a higher saline level than ocean water. The most well known hypersaline lake is the dead sea.
There are certain types of microbial and crustacean species that do well in this kind of environment, but in general, it is not welcoming to most life forms.
