Hypermiling is a set of techniques designed to increase efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Some of these techniques include: using cruise control, continuing to move through congested traffic, and minimizing the time you spend stopped at a traffic light.
Hypermiling is the act of driving in a way that does everything possible to maximize fuel economy. This includes techniques such as having slow and steady accelerations and by anticipating and minimizing braking. It also involves keeping your tires inflated properly, removing excess weight from your vehicle, and properly maintaining your vehicle. More extreme measures involve hyperinflating the tires to reduce resistance, shutting off the car at stoplights, drafting large trucks, and taking turns at high speeds to avoid braking.
