Thermophilic bacteria live in hot springs and deep-sea hydrothermal vents where temperatures surpass 100 degrees Centigrade (212 degrees Fahrenheit). As far as bacteria that cause foodborne illnesses, they generally can not survive temperatures higher than 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
