Cr(VI) or hexavalent chromium, refers to chemical compounds that contain the metallic element chromium in its positive-6 valence state. Workers involved in the making of stainless steel, or chromium chemicals and pigments are at a greater risk of health complications due to overexposure to Cr(VI). A possible carcinogen, Cr(VI) has been linked to lung cancer and several nasal issues including cancer, bleeding, ulceration, and rhinitis.
