Heterosis is the term used to describe improved characteristics in a hybrid animal, such as increased strength, hearing, adaptability, etc. This term is also known as “hybrid vigor” or “outbreeding enhancement”.
Heterosis refers to characteristics that breeders specifically desire. Size, fertility, growth rate, etc. are examples of some of these desired traits.
