The Henry system is a classification system that uses fingerprints to identify people. It is very useful because the ridge arrangement on every finger of every human being is unique and does not alter with growth or age. Even burns and injuries to the ridges do not alter their appearance as new, identical ridges form. The most elementary ways of identifying fingerprints is by separating them into three categories: loops, whorls, and arches.
