As beth1234 said, the recommended amount of sodium is less than 2400mg per day. However, if you are extremely active and sweat a lot you may be in need of a little bit more. Just as too much sodium can cause high blood pressure or hypertension, too little sodium can be harmful as well. Having too little sodium can cause hyponatremia which, in worst case scenario, can lead to seizures, coma, or even death. If your diet consists of a lot of fresh foods, you drink a lot of water, and you are very active, you can may be risk of having low sodium levels.
