The main human structure used to help fish pass dams is the fish ladder. these generally take the form of a series of ascending pools which are reached by swimming against a stream of water. the fish leap from one pool to the next until they’re over the dam. How big the pools are, how fast the water flows, and the number of the pools all need to be decided carefully, as if they are done wrong the fish will be unable to make it over the dam.
Fish ladders are usually put in place to help fish navigate the dams. The fish swim against a stream of water, which helps propel them into the air into the next section of the dam.
