What pets have the lowest eco-footprint?

There is a huge range of animals which people consider as pets. Size and diet would likely be the most important questions to ask yourself when considering an eco-friendly animal friend. If the animal is an small herbivore (such as a turtle), and you are growing it’s food organically and sustainably in your backyard, I’d say you are doing very well indeed. Carnivorous animals such as dogs, cats, and ferrets would be less environmentally friendly. The more processed or meat containing food you must buy a year, the higher that eco-footprint would get.
