What has happened with hydrogen fusion? It could solve our energy problems, right?

What has happened with hydrogen fusion is that nothing has happened yet.  Scientists have been trying for about 60 years now to mimic the sun’s ability to create massive amounts of energy by fusing hydrogen nuclei, but the truth is, we’re just not as powerful as we’d like to be.  The main problem with nuclear fusion is that the energy required to make fusion happen is greater than the energy produced (ie there is a net loss in energy…not very useful in solving the energy crisis).  Experiments in nuclear fusion have been failing for so long that, despite its enormous potential benefits, many are getting tired of spending actual money on a project that has not yet delivered any actual results.
