What has caused the koala bear to shrink in numbers?

The major cause it the loss of koala habitat.  This is due to deforestation, bushfires, and diseases reducing the numbers of eucalyptus trees.  Eighty-percent of koala habitat has already been destroyed by landclearing in Australia.  Around 4,000 koalas are killed each year by cars and dogs alone.
