Both, actually. Climate Change is being caused by a dramatic increase of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, in the atmosphere. More greenhouse gasses mean more of the sun’s heat gets trapped in the atmosphere, warming the planet.
There didn’t used to be that much CO2 in the atmosphere, but humans caused the level to increase by 1/3rd. The main way we do this is by burning fossil fuels, like coal or gasoline, to power our machines. But trees also soak up CO2 in their bodies, and by cutting so many of them down we’ve also added to the CO2 in the atmosphere.
