A recent development that GE roduced is solar powered water purification units. They utilize free, renewable, environmentally friendly solar energy to convert non-drinkable water into safe, clean drinking water. It doesn’t get much more environmentally friendly than that…
(This may not seem like that big of a deal in the U.S. where ample drinking water is generally avaliable, but GE has recently donated some of these units to Haiti, where they have the ability to change peoples lives).
I personally think the most simple and everyday type items are the best environmental inventions. Little things like energy-efficients lightbulbs and windows and the staple-free stapler. I like these sorts of household items because they are fairly inexpensive and available to everyone but when enough people use them they can make a big difference. Below are some links to some other great green inventions:
I would argue that solar panels and wind turbines are, thus far, man’s best invention for the environment. If we are able to develop their technologies further and eventually sustain all of our energy needs off of their clean, renewable energy sources (wind and sunlight), we can ultimately eradicate our need for GHG-emitting, fossil fuel-burning energy sources that pollute our air and water and contribute to climate change.
