Many people who have kidney disease don’t know it because the early signs can be very subtle. It can take many years for kidney disease to turn to kidney failure. The first symptom to really look out for are changes in urination. Kidneys make urine, so when the kidneys are failing, the urine may change. Your urine may contain blood or you may have difficulty urinating. A second symptom could be swelling because failing kidneys don’t remove extra fluid, which builds up in your body causing swelling in legs, ankles, feet, and other parts of your body.
