What happens to the animals that used to live in sea shells?

    Mollusks live in shells…they’re the ones who actually GROW the shells. Once they die, their bodies decompose and disappear but the shell remains, for use by all kinds of hermit crabs and other sea life.

    Baby conchs hatch from their eggs and float around at sea for ~3wks until they sink to the bottom. At this time, they have developed a transparent tiny shell.
