What happens to a protein from the time that it is produced to the time it is exported from the cell

    Proteins serve a wide variety of functions, so not all proteins are exported from the cell. Many wind up embedded in the cell membrane to help transport smaller molecules in and out of the cell. Others wind up forming organelles. As for transporting proteins and other molecules within the cell, the golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum perform that function.
