What happens to old space ships?

Ships that don’t carry passengers, such as the Voyager and Voyager 2, continue floating off into space after we stop receiving signals from them. Other old rockets and space shuttles have ended up in museums. Skylab, NASA’s old space station orbited the earth and then broke apart while reentering the atmosphere, dropping pieces in Australia which resulted in Australia issuing NASA a $400 littering fine.
